Uniquely You

Growing up is hard to do. Part of the growing up process is learning to accept and love yourself just as you are. People can affect your self esteem by thoughtless or insensitive words; you yourself can harm your self esteem when you critically scrutinize every detail that makes you uniquely you.

Psychologists tell us that one of the most important issues in life is coming to terms with who you are. Accepting yourself is foundational to mental health. Every person has strong and weak points. If you dwell on the negatives it will impair your growth and you may become a closed off, bitter, and a cynical loner in life. You do have a choice about the way you choose to think about yourself. You can choose how you think - you do have control over your thoughts.  You can choose to focus on the positives and develop your strengths.

Have you ever heard the saying, "What you say you are - you are?" If you think of yourself as a failure you will orchestrate situations to see that you fail. When you choose to perceive yourself as a confidant and worthy person; you will find a way to succeed.

Sometimes the trouble we have with accepting ourselves has to do with too much focus on ourselves. When we take our focus off of ourselves and look for ways to show kindness or to help others, we are blessed with joy and happiness, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." Acts 20:35

Give yourself a break. Don't focus on what you can't change. You are special and one of a kind. That, my friend, is what makes you Uniquely You.
